Synopsis of the Lecture

The Lecture examines the impact of protracted conflicts ~ particularly, Insurgency, resource wars, farmer-herder clashes and rural violence ~ on food insecurity in the NE region. The paper traces the root causes of human and food insecurity in the region to climate change, demographic explosion, deforestation, violent extremism, rural violence and deficits of governance that have bedeviled the nation at large. These factors have brought about mass displacement and decimated agricultural activities. The lecture offers solid policy recommendations for the government, development partners, and local communities. The recommendations include speedy restoration of public security, revamping the agriculture value chain, rehabilitation of displaced persons and communities, restoration of rural livelihood, and mechanized agriculture.
