Application for Admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy 76 Regular Course



As part of efforts geared towards improving mobility and easing transportation challenges being faced by staff, as well as shoring up the number of operational vehicles, the Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy, (NDA) Major General JO Ochai, today Friday, March 15, 2024, at the NDA Headquarters, Afaka, commissioned 14 newly purchased vehicles, including 4 motorcycles, for use by the NDA.

The newly acquired vehicles include 3 Toyota Land Cruiser Sports Utility Vehicles 2023 model 70 anniversary edition,3 Coaster Buses, 2017 model, one Toyota Hiace Bus,2 Water Tankers , an Ambulance as well as 4 motorcycles .

Speaking at the Commissioning ceremony Major General JO Ochai said the vehicles recently acquired and commissioned have added to the inventory of vehicles in the Academy. He added, “There is no institution, much less an Academy, that can survive without mobility, and not just mobility but specialised vehicles”.The Commandant who also disclosed that a fire fighting vehicle,which is part of the vehicles purchased, is yet to be delivered,however noted that it is billed to be delivered on the 22 March 2024 and will immediately be commissioned because the current fire fighting vehicles in NDA are outmoded.Sequel to this, the Commandant revealed, there is need for a high performance
modern fire fighting trucks fully equipped with up-to-date equipment that could quickly and effectively intervene, in case of any fire incident in NDA.

Additionally, Major General Ochai stated that he had noticed the poor state of the ambulances during a visit to the NDA Hospital, which according to him, are fitted with outdated equipment, hence the need to purchase a new state-of-the-art ambulance for the NDA Hospital. “A good ambulance should serve as a mini hospital, capable of providing emergency services to patients before finally reaching the Hospital”, he averred.The Commandant therefore assured the gathering that the new ambulance will provide services for every sector of the NDA community.

Furthermore, the Commandant disclosed that he was delighted to have purchased the buses because they assist in transporting staff to work and ease the current transportation problems staff are currently facing, particularly as a result of the tough economic situation in the country.He added that the buses could also be used by staff and personnel for other functions such as conveying staff for weddings and other social activities.

Reiterating the premium he places on staff welfare, Major General Ochai reassured that everyone who is entitled to an official car, would be provided with in due time. Major General Ochai further declared that steps have been taken to ensure that every Directorate and Faculty is provided with a bus.

The Commandant used the occasion to thank the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his unwavering support to the NDA, particularly for providing the resources needed to procure the vehicles, even in the light of the current economic challenges the nation is facing. He extended the gratitude of the entire staff and cadets of NDA to Mr President for his continuous support to Academy.He also appreciated the Minister of Defence, Minister of State Defence, Chief of Defence Staff as well as Service Chiefs for their strategic guidance.

Finally, the Commandant thanked everyone present at the commissioning ceremony and urged all staff to avoid misuse of the vehicles but to utilise them to their benefits and to the growth of the NDA.

Highlight of the event was the drive round the Academy on board the newly commissioned vehicles led by the Commandant.
