OVERVIEW

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in 1998 and commenced academic activities with six (6) pioneer cadets of 49RC for the B.Eng Civil Engineering degree which is a 5-year programme.  The Department graduated its first set of cadets at the end of the 2000/2001 Session.  So far, a total of 126 cadets have graduated from the department. In 2014, the department commenced Postgraduate Diploma in Civil Engineering (PGDCE).  The PGDCE programme is open to both military and civilian students.  The first set of graduates were produced at the end of 2014/2015 and the second set of PGDCE graduated in the 2015/2016 Session. The department commenced Master degree in Structures and Geotechnics in 2017/2018 session while Master degree in Water Resources commenced in 2019/2020 se department also commences Doctor in Philosophy in Geotechnics in 2019/2020 session.

The general responsibility of the Civil Engineering department is to produce graduate military officers with high academic standards, adequate background which will be immediate value to the needs of the military in particular, industry and nation in general.

The vision of the Department of Civil Engineering for the next ten years is to produce inimitable high quality graduates with broad-based training in Civil Engineering designed to serve as a foundation for development of the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Nation at large

OUR OBJECTIVES

To achieve above aim, the training of Civil Engineering programme is tailored towards these objectives:

  1. Ability to design engineering projects, supervises construction process, operate and maintain such schemes.  Investigate and evaluate various Civil Engineering Structures/Projects.
  2. Install and maintain Civil Engineering system so that they can perform optimally in peace and war time environment.
  3. Adopt and adapt exogenous technology in order to solve local Civil Engineering problems.
  4. Provide technical and management leadership for needs of the Armed Forces and professional level.
  5. Apply the fundamental principle methods of analysis and design to the development and modification of war like items.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The requirements for the various programmes are as follows:

BENG IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

Candidate seeking for admission into the department must possess 5 credits in not more than 2 sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and any other relevant credit from sciences.

MASTER'S DEGREE

A Candidate seeking admission into the degree programme shall be a graduate of the Nigerian Defence Academy or any other recognized University and possess a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division) in the relevant discipline.  A candidate with minimum of GPA not less than 4.0 or A grade at postgraduate diploma from the Academy may also be admitted to Masters Degree Programme or GPA of 3.50 or B grade for a professional Masters Degree programme

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD) DEGREE

A candidate for PhD degree must possess a Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class Honours, Lower Division) and a Master’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 or B grade in appropriate area of study from Nigerian Defence Academy.
