PROF GARBA PRESENTS 16th NDA PROFESSORIAL INAUGURAL LECTURE
…Calls on the Federal Government to establish Centre for Natural Products and Herbal Medicine Research
It was another epoch-making event at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Ribadu Campus as erudite Professor of Organic Chemistry, Professor Saidu Garba, delivered the 16th NDA Professorial Inaugural Lecture titled, “Green Plants: Natural Chemical Factory For Drug Development “, an exercise which therefore completes the final stage of the requirements towards Prof Garba attaining full professorship.Delivering the lecture, which espoused on the importance and benefits of Chemistry to every aspect of human existence, Professor Garba highlighted the application of Chemistry in our homes, our shoes, our clothes, our car battery and pharmaceutical products, indicating that Chemistry is at work in every aspect of human existence. His lecture however focused on the use of natural products like fruits, vegetables, legumes, roots and herbs which he said are utilized in both traditional and modern medicine for treating diseases.
During his remarks at the event, the Commandant NDA, Major General IM Yusuf, described Professor Garba as an outstanding staff of the Academy who is highly dedicated, patriotic and insists on the right things being done. He commended the Professor for overseeing the full accreditation of all undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the Nigerian Defence Academy. General Yusuf further described Professor Saidu Garba as a man who always strives for excellence and someone worthy of emulation.
Similarly, the Special Guest of Honour at the 16th Professorial Inaugural Lecture, Chief of Logistics (Army), Major General OA Akintade, commended the high level of staff and infrastructural development in NDA, which he noted has given rise to academic excellence at the Academy. He appreciated the Commandant for his foresight in running the Academy.
Maj Gen Akintade also commended Professor Garba for doing justice to the topic with clarity and simplicity. He congratulated the Professor for being the 1st Professor in his LGA and the 1st BSc holder in his village in Kebbi State, describing it as a great feat. He added that Chemistry is life and the best subject anybody can study.
Highlights of the event include decoration of Professor Saidu Garba as a full fledged Professor, presentation of souvenir to the Special Guest of Honour and group photograph.
