PROFESSOR MATTHEW NNAMDI AGU

Matthew Nnamdi Agu, a Professor of Nuclear Science and Engineering, is a lecturer in Physics Department, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.

He attended University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife from 1975 to 1980 and was awarder B.Sc in Engineering Physics (Nuclear Engineering), Universite Scientifique et Medicale, Institut Des Sciences Nucleaires, Grenoble, France where he obtained M.Sc (1983) and Dr. Ingenieur (1986) in Nuclear Instrumentation and Measurement.

On return to Nigeria, he worked at the Centre for Energy Research and Development, University of Ife, from April 1996 to September 1997, then Federal University of Technology, Owerri from September 1997 to 1990. In October 1990, he joined the services of the Academy and has held several positions including Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, Director of Academic Planning and Dean of Postgraduate School. In October 2010, he joined the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission on Leave of Absence where again he served as Director Nuclear Power Plant Development, Commissioner Nuclear Power Plant Development and finally Project Manager for Nuclear Power before returning back to Physics Department of NDA in July 2020.

Prof. MN Agu is a specialist in Nuclear Reactor Instrumentation and has published over 45 scholarly articles in both local and foreign journals.

His current areas of research include: nuclear instrumentation, radiation monitoring and environmental radioactivity.
