The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Community witnessed yet another epoch making event as Professor IS Mbachu delivered the Academyâ€™s 8th Professorial Inaugural lecture titled, â€œStrategic Studies And Contemporary Statecraft â€“ Lessons For Nigeriaâ€.The event which took place at the JN Garuba Hall, Ribadu Cantonment was attended by the high and mighty in the society; the Nigerian Military, the Academia, Captains of industry, Staff and Cadets of NDA. In his lecture, Prof Mbachu noted that while Policy is a countryâ€™s set of cardinal rules based on well articulated principles, Strategy is the art of moving troops and war arsenals to impose on the enemy.
According to him, lessons for Nigeria based on his lecture will deal with security which includes safeguard against threats to territorial integrity and democratic system. This he said will protect the goals of Nigeria which are economic prosperity, prestige, honour, peaceful coexistence and military strength. With this lecture, Prof Mbachu has added another feather to his cap by becoming a fully fledged Professor otherwise known as â€œInaugurated Professorâ€.
Thereafter, he was decorated by the Commandant Major General A Oyebade. Earlier in his remarks, the Commandant NDA, Major General A Oyebade affirmed that the hallmark of any nation is dependent on the quality of its leadership saying that it has to do with in-depth knowledge of strategy and very wild scope of knowledge and statecraft. He urged other Professors to take a cue from Prof Mbachu and add value to the development and growth of Nigeria.
General Oyebade further tasked everyone especially the Professors to contribute immensely towards making Nigeria a strong and united entity. Similarly, the Special Guest of Honour and past Commandant NDA, Major General TL Ashei (rtd) added that the lecture was incisive and commended Prof Mbachu for identifying the problems of Nigeria and proffering solutions. He recommends Prof Mbachuâ€™s lecture to the Presidency as panacea for Nigeriaâ€™s lingering problems. General Ashei expressed his delight at the level of development in NDA.
