NDA NOT FOR WEAKLINGS – Maj Gen IM Yusuf As Dalet Battalion Wins Pushup, Sit-up, Beam Heaving Competition

As Dalet Battalion Wins Pushup, Sit-up, Beam Heaving Competition

The Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Major General IM Yusuf, has remarked that the NDA is not for weaklings, indicating that only cadets with the required physical and mental capabilities can successfully pass through the Academy to become commissioned officers in the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The Commandant gave this insight while delivering his remarks at the Cadets’ Brigade Inter Battalion Pushup, Sit Up and Beam Heaving Competition, held at NDA Sports Complex Afaka.

Maj Gen Yusuf stressed that, to be an effective soldier, one must possess strong arms and toughened stomach muscles. He therefore encouraged the cadets to grow accustomed to the exercises and practice often, striving for perfection, noting that doing so will make them excel even in other training activities in the Academy.

He further enjoined junior cadets to learn the right attitude from their seniors, while calling on them to remain committed and determined in their various training activities in the Academy.

The Commandant, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event also stated that the exercise is dear to him. He noted that his concern lies more with the least performing cadets than the high performers. He therefore enjoined each Battalion to ensure that the least performing cadets improve to meet the standard going forward.

The competition which is aimed at promoting physical fitness and mental development of cadets, was concluded with Dalet Battalion emerging winners with a total of 240 points. Burma Battalion came in second with 220 points, while Abyssinia Battalion were third with 200 points. The last battalion on the scoreboard was Mogadishu Battalion, having scored 180 points to emerge fourth.

Highlights of the event includes presentation of medals and trophy to deserving cadets and battalion respectively and novelty display on Pushup, Sit Up and Beam work by NDA Youth Corps Members.
