Maj Awwal Isa is a serving Nigerian army officer with the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna. He holds a Bsc in political science from the University of Maiduguri (2000-2005). He also earned MSc in international relations from the University of Abuja (2006-2012). He obtained MA in Security and Intelligence Studies from the University of Buckingham UK (2013-2014). With considerable interest in intelligence studies, he obtained his PhD in Security and Intelligence Studies from the same University of Buckingham UK. He is the Pioneer Head of the Department of Intelligence and Security Science in the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna. He is happily married and enjoys reading and writing. His primary research area is intelligence studies, intelligence education and training, security and strategic studies, national security, intelligence analysis and tradecraft. He has published standard research work in the field of intelligence studies, intelligence education, engaging academia to improve professionalism in the intelligence community, intelligence education and training as imperative to national security, teaching about intelligence studies, professionalism in the intelligence community, intelligence management and national security, comparative assessment of UK and Nigeria’s national security architecture, the quest for academisation of intelligence studies in Nigerian universities, professionalism, core competences and intelligence analysis, intelligence studies curriculum, challenges of teaching intelligence in non-military universities.  He has received many educational awards and best paper presentation awards. He has developed both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes curriculum for Security and Intelligence Studies.  He was a resource person for the Development of Undergraduate Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) for Security and Intelligence Studies for Nigerian Universities. He has supervised many Masters dissertations and Master’s thesis in National Security, Intelligence and Security Studies, and intelligence education.  He is a fellow of the Institute of Intelligence and National Security, a member Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.  He is the Head of the Department of Intelligence and Security Sciences in the Faculty of Military Science and Interdisciplinary studies.
