INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF WOMEN LAWYERS VISITS NDA

Members of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Kaduna State Chapter, today paid a courtesy visit to the Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy, Maj Gen IM Yusuf, at the NDA Headquarters, Afaka. FIDA is a Non-Governmental Organisation whose mission and vision is to promote, protect and preserve the rights, interests and wellbeing of women and children through the use of legal frameworks which ensure their freedom to choose and have their own future, devoid of all forms of discrimination, violence and human right abuses in the society.Stating the purpose of their visit to NDA, the Chairperson FIDA Kaduna State Chapter, Aisha Abdu Mohammed, disclosed that their visit is aimed at familiarising the association with NDA as well as solicit support from NDA to enable them carry out their functions effectively. According to Mrs Mohammed, FIDA is engaged in a series of free legal representation for indigent women and children, advocacy and policy campaigns, mediation and counseling services. These, she added, are in addition to publishing informational resources. On this background, the FIDA Chairperson solicited for the support of NDA in its concerted efforts towards bringing to an end all forms of violence against women and children.

Responding, the Commandant NDA, Maj Gen IM Yusuf, commended the female lawyers for their efforts at defending innocent citizens, especially women and children. He assured the FIDA members that despite the apparent constraints being experienced across board, NDA will do its best to offer its own quota towards the support of the good works of FIDA.

The Commandant, who used the event to intimate the female lawyers on the exceptional performance recorded by female cadets in the Academy and female officers in the Armed Forces at large, also encouraged the women to continue in the good works they have been engaged in, irrespective of the seeming challenges confronting them. He further prayed for God Almighty to continue to protect and grant them the strength and courage to fulfill their mandate.
