INTER-BATTALION COMPETITION: BURMA EMERGES OVERALL WINNER

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Cadets Brigade Inter-Battalion Competition took place today, 25 November 2023 at the Academy Sports Complex, Afaka. The Competition which is an annual event was aimed at improving cadets’ endurance, physical fitness, team spirit, agility, and fostering a healthy spirit of competition. The Competition which was conducted amongst the various battalions in the NDA, saw Burma Battalion emerged victorious with a cumulative points of 15,163, securing the highly coveted trophy. While Abyssinia, Dalet and Mogadishu came 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions with a cumulative points of 15,096, 13,920 and 13,900 respectively. While delivering the closing remarks, the Commandant, NDA, Major General JO Ochai who was the Special Guest of Honour, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Cadets, adding that he was particularly exited that no casualty was recorded. He however, observed the poor level of coordination during the event, urging the physical training instructors to improve in subsequent outings. The Commandant who was represented by the Deputy Commandant, Air Vice Marshal SK Aneke highlighted that going forward there is the need to correct all observed errors in subsequent competitions. He congratulated Burma Battalion for the courageous efforts they exhibited that led to their emergence as champions, urging them to maintain the standard. He also used the medium to commend all the Cadets that participated in the Competition, adding that they have indeed demonstrated physical dexterity expected of Cadets in the NDA. He however, observed that the Army and Air Force Cadets must redouble their efforts, as it was observed that the Naval Cadets dominated the individual award-winning categories. The events competed included Inter-Battalion sit up, push up, beam heaving, and vertical rope climbing.A total of 100 Cadets drawn from each Battalions participated, with 95 males and 5 females Cadets who competed in various categories. Major highlight of the event were the presentation of trophy to the Champion Battalion, medals to outstanding Cadets, and physical demonstrations by members of the NDA National Youth Service Corps members as well NDA military officers.
