INTER- BATTALION COMPETITION: ABYSSINIA BATTALION EMERGES OVERALL WINNER.

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Cadet’s Brigade Inter-Battalion Skill at Arms and Bayonet Fighting Competition organised for Army cadets of 71 Regular Course took place today,January 19,2024 at the Oliver Nzalgana Academy Parade Ground, Afaka.

The competition is designed to enhance the cadet’s skills in weapon handling and techniques in fighting as well enhancing the proficiency of cadet’s while also improving their ability to strip and assemble different rifles and pistols.

During the event, the Guest of Honour,Maj Gen JO Ochai, Commandant NDA, emphasized the importance of the competition in equipping cadets with necessary weapon handling skills.He noted the current security challenges in the country and highlighted the significance of the cadets’ proficiency in weapons handling,noting that this will make the cadets more proficient in handling their personal weapon and contribute more towards solving myraid of security challenges bedeviling our nation when they are posted to their various formations after their graduation from the Academy.The Commandant commended the Cadets Brigade Commander, Brigadier General OI Odigie for putting up a wonderful event.

After the results were announced by the Chief Judge of the competition, Maj FE Ekwe, Abyssinia Battalion secured first place with a total score of 1591.5 points.Burma Battalion came in second place with 1569.5 points,followed closely by Mogadishu Battalion in third place with 1562.5 points.Dalet Battalion finished fourth with 1147 points.

The competition was conducted in two phases.Phase one involved the stripping and assembling of various weapons as well as safety procedures,while the
phase 2 focused on bayonet fighting featuring on-guard position, butt stroke against dummy enemy amongts others.

In his closing remarks, the Commandant congratulated Abyssinia Battalion for their victory while encouraging Dalet Battalion to perform their best in future events. He praised the cadets for their impressive exhibition and mastery of personal weapons.

The event concluded with the presentation of the trophy to the winning battalion.
