PROFILE OF DR (MRS) NAFISATU DAHIRU MUHAMMAD (OON)
COORDINATOR CENTRE FOR CRITICAL THINKING TEACHING AND LEARNING (CCTTL)
DR (MRS) NAFISATU DAHIRU MUHAMMAD has many years of teaching experience acquired mainly at the Farfaru College of Education (now Shedu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto) and University of Maiduguri in Nigeria. She has carried out several studies on students and their English performance at the primary and Secondary Level. From 1995 to 2002, she served as the Head of Department of Planning, Research and Statistics (now programme Development and Extension) of the National Commission for Nomadic Education Supervising the development of operational strategies for the implementation of the Nomadic Education Programme (NEP); and of relevant educational programs and materials. She has several publications to her credit on special education in Nigeria and belongs to a number of professional bodies in Nigeria and beyond.
Dr Nafisatu was first appointed as the pioneer female chief executive of Nomadic Education Commission in 2002. She successfully completed her first tenure and was reappointed for the second term in office since 2007 based on modest achievement recorded in broadening access of quality functional basic education to nomadic pastoralists, migrant fisher folk and migrant farmers in Nigeria. Nomadic girl child education and women empowerment has also witness significant improvement during her tenure. She promoted nomadic education not only in Nigeria but in Africa and beyond where the NCNE became a reference point for buy in best practices on nomadic education at global level.
After the successful completion of her full term tenure as ES NCNE, she took up a two years contract appointment as Senior Lecturer in the Department of General Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in November 2013. Following the establishment of the Centre for Critical Thinking, Teaching and Learning, Dr Nafisatu was appointed the Coordinator of the Centre.
She is a recipient of various awards both at home and abroad including the WOTCLEF African Woman Award 2004 (Education Category) and Award of the Officer of the Order of the Niger – OON ; Fellow/Patron, African Association of Internal Auditors ; African Youth Congress Merit Award ; Adamawa State Students’ Union [ADSSU]; Special Award of Honour ; Fulfulde Promotion Club [Bayero University, Kano Chapter]; Certificate of Honour [2005/2006]; Women Executive Leadership Summit/African Women in Public Life Excellence Award by Women’s Executive Leadership Forum, Executive Reach Programs, London, UK ; and MICA Leadership Forum Excellence Award, Lagos .
SCHEDULE OF DUTIES OF THE COORDINATOR CENTRE FOR CRITICAL THINKING TEACHING AND LEARNING (CCTTL)
The Coordinator is responsible to the Academy Provost for the day to day administration of the Centre in areas of research, coordination, collaboration linkages, partnerships and other duties as may be determined from time to time by the Academy.
