Speaking during a courtesy call on the Commandant NDA, the DG thanked the Commandant for hosting him and his team at such a short notice, while stating that the purpose of their visit was to acquaint the Commandant NDA with the activities of DRDB and to seek partnership with the NDA, which is widely renowned as a foremost research institution. While highlighting the activities of the DRDB, the DG disclosed that DRDB is a coordinating body that sponsors research in institutions, innovative centers and research agencies that are affiliated with the military. Maj Gen Ndagi also opined that a partnership with NDA would be beneficial to both institutions, as a way of enhancing national security and national development objectives of some security research issues by providing locally fabricated support weapons, personal protective equipment as well as ready-to-eat meals for personnel in battle field. He stated that DBRD has a very critical mandate of coordinating the all research and development activities of the Armed Forces, in liaison with relevant stakeholders like NDA. According to him, the agency also partners with other military institutions like the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) and Airforce Institute Of Technology (AFIT), among other, as well as some international collaborations such as ICT collaboration with the Indian Defence Research Development Organization in its research, innovation and technological activities. He therefore posited that it is necessary for NDA and DRDB to share ideas and capabilities for the development of Nigeria’s indigenous military industries. Responding, the Commandant NDA,Major General JO Ochai, represented by the Deputy Commandant NDA, Air Vice Marshal SK Aneke, thanked the DG DRDB and his team for selecting NDA among the few institutions to visit. He noted that it is a privilege and honour for NDA to host the DRDB delegation. He further added that NDA is keen to support and partner with DRDB in all aspects of its research and development activities. AVM Aneke also revealed that NDA has made a lot of progress in research and development of military innovations, especially at the NDA Faculty of Engineering where various military hardware have been developed, many of which, he further noted, have received recognition and won various awards. Finally he thanked DRDB for their continuous support to the NDA, which he said will go a long way in encouraging more inventions and development within the Academy. Briefing the DRDB delegation, the Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology, (FET) Prof DK Garba, disclosed that NDA has various laboratories and workshops which DRDB could benefit from through partnership for research and development purposes. He reiterated that the main focus of the Faculty of Engineering in NDA is to develop various equipment for military application, with the aim of enhancing Nigeria’s self-sustainability, without relying on other countries for our military hardware needs. Highlights of the visit include inspection of Quarter Guard , exchange of souvenirs , a group photograph and a tour of R & D facilities in NDA.
