OVERVIEW

The Department of Management Studies was created in 2019 to be domiciled under the new faculty of management sciences. Although the postgraduate programmes had been in existence in the Department of Economics, later in 2016 when the Department of Accounting was created the postgraduate programmes were moved to the department. Following the restructuring of academic programmes and the creation of a new department, the department of management studies came on board. Subsequently, the department will henceforth house all the postgraduate programmes and new courses that are management based namely: Doctor of Philosophy in Management (PhD), Masters in Management (MSC), Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Masters in Industrial and Labour Relation (MILR), Masters in Entrepreneurship and Business Management (MEBM), Masters in Entergy Security Management (MESM), Diploma in Management (PGDM), Diploma in Entrepreneurship (PGDE) and many more to come.

The department will expose the students to the latest developments in the fields of business, management, marketing and the economy using the latest technology.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The aim of the Department is to produce graduates (Officer Cadets) and postgraduate students who are able to proffer solutions to socio-economic problems that affect the Nigerian Armed Forces and the society at large. The degree programs have been designed to achieve the following objectives:

  1. To provide students with a balanced academic curriculum of study. This will enable them to contribute effectively to the operational needs of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

  2. To produce competent professional officers who will be administrators, financial and management experts. c. To prepare students to qualify and become members of local and international professional bodies such as Chartered Institute of Management, Nigerian Chartered Institute of Bankers, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, and Association of National. Accountants of Nigeria, among others.

  3. To create an intellectually exciting and supportive work environment in which high-quality, internationally recognized research and teaching in business management and related disciplines are produced and disseminated.

  4. To produce socially responsible managers who are mindful of accepted norms and ethics

  5. Producing managers who are capable of applying appropriate management principles and techniques of problem-solving in the Nigerian environment and the world at large. 4g. To produce managers with entrepreneurial skills and leadership qualities.

  6. To produce managers who are equipped with relevant ICT knowledge and skills and practical analysis of problems related to management and administration of public, private and international organizations

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

A candidate seeking admission into Master’s degree programmes shall be a graduate of the Nigerian Defence Academy or any other recognized university and who possesses a minimum of Second Class Honour (Lower Division) in the relevant discipline

 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for admission into the Department of Management postgraduate programme, candidates must possess either or combination of under-listed qualifications:

  1. Graduates of Nigerian Defence Academy and holders of any other degrees recognized by the Academic Board of the Nigerian Defence from the Department of Management Studies and cognate disciplines not lower than Second Class Lower (2:2) degree.

  2. First Degree in Management, accounting, Finance, Marketing or any other recognized University with pass at not less than Second Class Honour (Lower Division)

  3. Holders of equivalent Professional qualifications in Economics, Banking and Finance, Insurance. Marketing, Engineering, etc. may be considered for admission provided they fulfil other conditions in (d) & (e) below.

  4. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) in relevant disciplines with a minimum of Upper Credit plus postgraduate Diploma in Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting and Finance, Postgraduate Diploma in Banking and Finance or any other relevant Postgraduate Diploma from a recognized University.

  5. Credit in five O’level subjects including Mathematics and English language obtained at not more than two (2) sittings.

  6. In processing applications, Managerial work experience shall be regarded as a distinct advantage
