Colito Company Wins Ashanti Battalion Sports Competition

COLITO COMPANY WINS ASHANTI BATTALION SPORTS COMPETITION

Colito Company of Ashanti Battalion has emerged winners at the just concluded Cadets’ Brigade Inter-Company Sports and Combat Sports Competition for cadets of Short Service Course 47 (Army), which came to a close today at the NDA Sports Complex, Ribadu Campus.

The Colito company having topped most of the sporting events emerged champions and carted away a total of 7 medals, 4 gold and 3 silver. Following behind Colito was Kalapanzin Company with a total win of 7 medals, comprising 2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. Tamando Company came third with 1 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals.

Speaking at the occasion, the Special Guest of Honour, Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy, Major General SA Yaro, who was represented by the Director of Military Training, Brigadier General OJ Akpor, harped on the importance of indulging in sporting activities and reiterated that it forms a vital aspect of training at the Nigerian Defence Academy.

“Apart from the physical and mental wellbeing that is derived from active participation in these events, they also serve as bridge builders which encourage good teamwork, spirit of sportsmanship amongst competitors”, he added.

The Commandant also reminded cadets that sports would prepare them for the arduous tasks that await them as officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces, while also stating that the spirit of healthy competition will motivate the cadets to excel as they progress in their careers.

The Ashanti Battalion Inter-Company Sports and Combat Sports Competition, which was a 3-Day event, saw the Short Service Course 47 Army Cadets competing for prominence in 7 sporting events including Football, Basketball, Volleyball and Boxing. Others are Handball, Tug-of-War and Wrestling.
