20 FEMALE CADETS CONCLUDE ENERGIZING EDUCATION PROGRAMMETwenty female Cadets from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna have recently completed the Energizing Education Programme (EEP) Phase II Female Science,Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Internship Programme.The Programme, which is an initiative of the Nigerian government being supervised by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in collaboration with the World Bank and Ceesolar Energy Limited, aimed at teaching female gender selected from tertiary institutions across the Six Geographical zone of the country, NDA inclusive.
The scheme has provided hands on practical experience to the Cadets about renewable energy, its benefits and potential.

The closing ceremony,which took place toady, January 17, 2024, at the Air Force Wing Auditorium NDA, saw the Commandant of the NDA, Major General JO Ochai, expressed his gratitude to the Federal Government, World Bank, REA, and Ceesolar for their efforts in training the female Cadets.Major General Ochai emphasized the importance of educating women and highlighted that the knowledge gained by the Cadets will be passed down to their subordinates and used for the betterment of society.

In her speech, Mrs Chidera Achinanya,Data Management Officer,EEP, highlighted that the internship programme focused on female Cadets due to the gender gap observed in STEM disciplines across Sub-Saharan Africa.She explained that incorporating renewable energy effectively in the region requires more women. Mrs Achinanya congratulated the beneficiary female Cadets on their dedication and commitment to the programme. She expressed gratitude to the NDA for its support and accommodation.

In his remarks,Engineer Chibueze Ekeh,Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer,Ceesolar Energy Limited,also expressed gratitude to the NDA for the programme success.He commended the Cadets for completing the first phase of the internship and encouraged them to prepare themselves for the next phase.

Miss Victory Jane, the Gender Based Violence Representative at REA, thanked the REA and World Bank for their support.She commended the participants for their efforts and praised the Ceesolar Team for providing them with the necessary knowledge.

In an exclusive interview, Cadet DO Francis, one of the beneficiaries, revealed that they learned a great deal about solar energy as well as how it can be harnessed for renewable energy.She mentioned that they also gained knowledge on how to channel the energy to homes through inverters and various converting machines.Despite the demanding nature of their training at the NDA,Cadet Francis expressed happiness for being able to fully participate in the programme.She experresed hope that the knowledge gained could positively impact the Armed Forces and humanity as a whole.

Overall, the internship programme successfully equipped 20 female Cadets from the NDA with essential knowledge about renewable energy, ensuring their potential contributions to the sector and society at large.

Highpoints of the event included presentation of certificates to the participants, presentation of souvenirs and tour of facilities as well as group photograph.Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army / Force Commander Operation WHILR PUNCH, Major General VU Okoro Academy Provost,Principal Staff Officers of NDA, Academic Staff, among others.
